Wind Projects “Far Greater Threat to Wildlife than Climate Change”

Wind Projects Driving Birds and Bats to Extinction, Says Oxford University Biologist
Wind Projects “Far Greater Threat to Wildlife than Climate Change”

The horrifying impact of industrial wind projects on birds and bats has been underscored again by a leading UK biologist, who says most environmentalists don’t want to know – “they’re so desperate to believe in renewable energy, they’re in a state of denial.”

In the US alone, it’s estimated that industrial wind projects kill over a million birds a year, many rare and endangered. Because wind projects are sited on ridges they slaughter migrating birds and raptors, which is why wind companies laughingly call their projects “bird cuisinarts.” Their toll on bats – many also endangered – is even worse.

And the saddest aspect of this tragedy is that it’s all purposeless. Wind projects todn’t lower greenhouse gas emissions or fossil fuel use, because wind is so erratic that fossil fuel power plants must run constantly to back up wind projects. But these projects make billions for the oil and energy companies that own them – thanks to US taxpayer subsidies just extended by Congress and the Obama administration.
